Wildstar Academy
Aims
To expand the role of the native female and underrepresented voices in wildlife filmmaking and thereby expanding the power and influence of their voices.
Approach
On Purpose have partnered with the award-winning production company Wildstar Films to create The Wildstar Academy: a beacon of change across the wildlife filmmaking industry and the media world beyond. We provide important funding that will bring unrepresented voices to natural history filmmaking through our tailor-made programmes which include 1:1 training with industry professionals, bootcamps and opportunities to participate and contribute on shoots for globally released films. The first Academy projects are via National Geographic Channel’s series on matriarchies in the animal kingdom: Queens plus America’s National Parks, with a further 3 landmark series at the planning stage.
Legacy
To revolutionise wildlife filmmaking and to ensure that these important natural history films are created by people with direct emotional, cultural and creative connections to the stories that need telling.
